First ignition of gas turbine held at 420 MW CCGT power unit under construction at Verkhnetagilskaya GRES

On March 21, the first ignition of the Siemens SGT5-400F gas turbine with a capacity of 305.9 MW was held, which marked the beginning of "hot" commissioning of equipment of 420 MW CCGT power unit No. 12 at Verkhnetagilskaya GRES. This is one of the main stages of preparation for the start of the power unit, the construction of which is underway as part of the capacity supply agreement (CSA).

Last Friday, on March 17, permission was received for the supply of gas to the new gas-distributing station at Verkhnetagilskaya GRES, built specifically for 420 MW CCGT power unit No. 12 which is now under construction. After exposure under a working pressure within 48 hours, the gas was piped to the station and gas turbine of power unit No. 12.

After the gas was supplied to the burner of the turbine, equipment was put to the no-load operation at 3,000 rpm and the gas turbine operation was measured. In the future, it is required to synchronize the gas turbine generator with the grid for the first time, and to produce the first megawatts, as well as to blow the steampipes and start the steam turbine plant produced by JSC Power Machines. After commissioning, the 420 MW CCGT power unit will be ready for comprehensive testing.

The new 420 MW CCGT power unit is planned to be put into operation in the second quarter of 2017.

After commissioning, the new power unit will replace previously decommissioned coal equipment of Verkhnetagilskaya GRES, which will increase the efficiency of the Verkhnetagilskaya GRES basic cycle from 35% to 45.4% and increase the reliability of the enterprise and its sustainability. The installed capacity of the new power unit is 446 MW, the main fuel will be natural gas, and the reserve fuel will be diesel. The specific fuel equivalent consumption will be 218 g/kWh.
