Inter RAO Electric Power Plants Announces Operating Results for the First Quarter of 2020

JSC Inter RAO – Electric Power Plants announces operating results for the first quarter of 2020.

*Including JSC Nizhnevartovskaya SDPP, as well as Mayakovskaya TPP, Talakhovskaya TPP and Pregolskaya TPP in the Kaliningrad region.

Power generation by enterprises of JSC Inter RAO — Electric Power Plants in the reporting period amounted to 19.8 billion kWh, having decreased by 18.1% compared to 2019. The decrease is mainly attributed to reduced power consumption in the UES of Russia by 1.2% in comparison with the corresponding period of the previous year (2.3% without taking into account the impact of an additional day in the leap year (February 29)), as well as increased electricity output by hydro power plants (22,5% in comparison with the same period of 2019) due to high water.

The installed capacity utilization factor of JSC Inter RAO — Electric Power Plants decreased to 41.78%.

In the Q1 2020, the installed power plant capacity of JSC Inter RAO – Electric Power Plants decreased by 3.5% compared with the same period of 2019 and amounted to 21.7 GW (in 2019 – 22.6 GW). This indicator was influenced by several factors:

• commissioning of a power unit of Pregolskaya TPP in Kaliningrad, with the capacity of 115 MW;

• decommissioning of inefficient equipment of three power units at the Kashirskaya SDPP (totaling 900 MW at both facilities) on January 1, 2020;

• increased installed capacity of power unit No.2 at Mayakovskaya TPP (+2.65 MW) and power unit No.2 at Talakhovskaya TPP (+2.1 MW) due to recertification since August 1, 2019.

In the first quarter of 2020, despite measures to increase energy efficiency, and along with decommissioning of inefficient equipment, and commissioning of energy-efficient generating equipment, due to a reduction in output by 18.1%, there was growth of specific fuel equivalent consumption for power generation by 0.5 g of specific fuel per kWh.

As a part of the maintenance routine in Q1 2020, the Inter RAO – Electric Power Plants and JSC Nizhnevartovskaya SDPP completed 6 repairs of power units (total power generation capacity of 1 460 MW), 6 repairs of turbo generators (total power generation capacity of 648 MW), and 2 repairs of boiler units (total steam generating capacity of 460 t/h).

Heat distribution by power plants of JSC Inter RAO – Electric Power Plants decreased by 6.2% in comparison with the corresponding period of the previous year and amounted to 1691.9 thousand Gcal. Reduced heat output was related to abnormally warm winter in European Russia.

The fuel mix of JSC Inter RAO – Electric Power Plants changed insignificantly: the share of natural gas decreased from 84.48% in Q1 2019 to 81.52% in Q1 2020, the share of coal increased by 2.85% – from 15.37% to 18.22%, the share of fuel oil increased by 0.1% and amounted to 0.25%.
