Cherepetskaya SDPP named after D.G. Zhimerin is the first European high-power steam-turbine power plant using ultra-high pressure steam (170 atm at 550°С).
Four 150 MW units and three 300 MW units were installed between 1952 and 1966, upping total installed capacity of Cherepetskaya SDPP to 1500 MW. Two 225 MW power generation units are operational at the moment.
The primary function of Cherepetskaya SDPP is to absorb the peak loads from Moscow, Tula, Oryol, Bryansk, and Kaluga regions. Annual electricity output is about 3 billion kWh, and heat output is approximately 150 thousand Gcal.
Given the strategic importance of Cherepetskaya SDPP for ensuring the proper functioning of Central Russian Energy System, an investment program was implemented at the plant; in December 2014 and June 2015, two coal dust power units 225 MW each were put into operation. Their distinctive features are high efficiency, modern automation level, compliance with the highest environmental requirements.
The installed capacity of Cherepetskaya SDPP was reduced to 450 MW in connection with the decommissioning of obsolete inefficient equipment of the second stage since January 1, 2017. This has resulted in increased operational efficiency and competitiveness of the plant, and installed capacity utilization has more than doubled.
